Ask the question
behind the reference.
Use practical hair consultation questions to uncover the goal, history, routine and priorities behind a client’s inspiration.
Professional from $24 / month. Stylist approval required.

Begin with the result in their own words.
Ask “What would you like to feel different about your hair?” before translating the answer into a service name. Then ask what they want to keep. This helps distinguish a change in shape, tone, styling or day-to-day experience from a request for a particular technique.
Make the routine part of the consultation.
Ask how much time they spend styling, what tools they actually use and how often they want to return. Discuss budget without making assumptions from the reference. IN CHAIR gathers maintenance and priorities alongside the visual direction so the plan can reflect real life.
End by checking your interpretation.
Try “This is the direction I recommend and what it involves. Does that sound like what you had in mind?” Record the agreed plan, any remaining questions and the care conversation. Good questions are valuable when their answers carry into the service.

Should every client answer the same questions?
Use a consistent starting point, then adapt the conversation to the guest, service and history. Returning clients still need an opportunity to explain what has changed.
Can I organise the answers in IN CHAIR?
Yes. The consultation workflow captures the client’s goals, history, references and priorities for planning.
Are these questions a consent form?
No. These are discussion prompts, not a replacement for any service-specific documentation your practice requires.
